Is CrossFit for beginners? Sometimes walking into a CrossFit gym for the first time might be incredibly confusing, overwhelming or downright unappealing. Many CrossFit gyms (also known as “boxes”) don’t always carry the pristine, appearance of a LifeTime fitness, nor do they have the shiny price tag of $10/mo. that Planet Fitness does.
However, CrossFit can very well be for beginners. Most gyms, such as CrossFit Des Plaines, will provide you with proper movement preparation, build your strength through appropriate movement and loading, and an intense workout that is a fraction of the length of time you might spend trotting on a treadmill at the globo gym on your own. Although most settings are in groups, the scalability of CrossFit training is closely paralleled to a personal training session (with less 1-to-1 time and attention on the individual).
Many CrossFit gyms will run beginners programs, like Just Move. It might look something like a 6-week program where a coach brings beginner athletes in through an orientation/welcome day, and coaches all the fundamental CrossFit movements each week, to follow with an intense workout utilizing the movements they had been taught that week. Often times, nutrition education or coaching programs are offered as a means to support the beginning of the individual’s fitness journey.
Others may be interested in a Foundations Course, which is 1-to-1 introductory sessions to CrossFit training. It’s similar to the group’s 6-week program, but condensed into a few classes before becoming streamlined with the regular CrossFit classes.
Sometimes all it takes is an initial call or chat with a coach to learn more about the culture of the gym near you, or the programs that they may have to offer. CrossFit can be for beginners, experienced athletes, or even those who are simply just looking for a change in their fitness routine.
