With doing our parts in staying at home, we have also committed to provide our members with the opportunity to continue to stay fit at home as CrossFit Des Plaines has gone VIRTUAL!
Over the last two weeks, our coaches have been working to keep the spirit of health and wellness alive within the homes of our athletes. Every day at 9 AM and 4:30 PM, we are streaming live, virtual workouts through the app, Zoom. In these workouts, we are carrying out a full warm up, strength-building circuit and our usual Workout of the Day (WOD).
It’s very practical for any level of fitness! Athletes were able to rent out equipment: one dumbbell or kettlebell, and one plate. With this, the program can be done from home, and athletes are taken through a workout with a coach on the video stream.
Meanwhile, athletes are also getting creative and competitive with their new challenges, from 100 burpees every day, to 100 push ups each day, or practicing their box jumps and double-unders with their kids in the driveway. It’s been great seeing our members take their fitness outside of the gym to keep strong throughout this time of distress in the world.
In addition to the virtual workouts, we have also opened up a Facebook support group to challenge athletes to stay up to par with their health and vitality during this time. Daily healthy living tips are posted, and weekly challenges are assigned in order to keep our members motivated with upholding their fitness even through nutrition, hydration, sleep and other healthy habits.
To top it off, the CFDP community gets together on a Friday Night Happy Hour hangout at 5:30 PM where athletes are able to socialize and catch up. As a CrossFit community, we definitely miss our people! Fortunately, we are able to pick up where we left off, even if it’s from afar. We’ve even got some new puppies to welcome to the family!
